Day Twenty-Five by Billy Dobbs

Colossians 3:2
“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

I read this a lot during times when I have a problem that I am facing and I don’t know what to do with it, a problem I personally have and am working through is when I am faced with a problem, I immediately focus on it and try to figure out how to fix it without including God. Whenever I read this, it reminds me where my focus should be, on God.
I went through a time where it seemed like everything that could possibly go wrong, went wrong. I kept trying to fix it and it took my focus completely. I’ve read this scripture before and it never really stood out to me, but I read it again and God really highlighted it to me. He helped me understand what “above” means. Before, when I thought of “above,” I thought of angels, heaven, that sort of thing. But what God showed me is that “above” is Him. His goodness, His love, His peace, His joy, just focus on who He is. Remember what He has done for you and what He promises He will do for you. In this scripture, he is telling us to not focus on this world and the problems that come with it, but to focus on him. In Exodus 14:14, he says, “The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” When our eyes are on Jesus, He fights for us. He takes care of the problems and takes out all of the stress we are feeling. He wants to fight your battles while you rest in who He is and keep your mind on the things above.

Dear God, please help me keep my mind set on you and not the things of this world. I know you want to help me through all of the problems I’m facing right now. Help me to let you fight my battles for me. Thank you for choosing to take care of my burdens. Help me to notice when my eyes are fixed on my problems instead of you. In Jesus’ name, amen
