Day Sixteen by Michael Roberts

Luke 4:18-19

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

So I read this verse recently and saw a picture that made this verse different to me than in times I’ve read it before. When I read the part “heal the broken hearted”, I remember thinking in the past thinking about people, including myself, that had their hearts broken in the past by a relative, friend, or loved one. The worst being by a break up if some sorts, or a betrayal, we put up defensive mechanisms and and create walls to protect ourselves from being hurt again. We can all relate to how this works and agree that we have all created these in our hearts and minds and habits. So now let me present the picture I saw when I read “heal the broken hearted”, it was a picture of a lion in a cage whose heart of freedom was broken, totally content with the captivity. Keep in mind this captivity is shelter, food, water, pleasing environment…comfortable! So let me ask you would you rather live in a comfortable environment or live in the endless possibilities of freedom? Then Jesus specifically quoted “to preach deliverance to the captives” from Isaiah 61:1. So in this new perspective indulge me to say he came to restore our hearts to crave freedom then set us free! To ignore those comforts that we have created in our hearts minds and habits. I tell you what…that gets me fired up!

So let’s pray,

Lord expose those comfortable restrictions that have been created in my heart, mind, and habits that prevent me from tasting and indulging in the freedom you designed for me. Thank you for fulfilling the scriptures and restoring relationship with me! Thank you and I love you in Jesus name amen!
